Kota Kinabalu: A collaboration between Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and the Renewable Energy Association of Sabah (REASabah) was set up to develop the utilisation of Renewable Energy (RE) in Sabah.

The two sides had a very fruitful discussion on how UMS and REASabah could collaborate, as there was much synergy between REASabah members and UMS researchers.

This included using hydrogen as an RE source, and the development and utilisation of solar and storage, biomass, biogas and pyrolysis technologies.

The discussion, based on the Executive Committee of REASabah, led by its Chairman, Datuk Ir Peter Lajumin, paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of UMS, Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Hj Mansor, on Wednesday.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
The collaboration would potentially study and identify problems and challenges faced by its members in the operation and maintenance of RE power plants.

Moreover, REASabah could also provide valuable input to the UMS Masters in Energy Management degree program, and in the collaboration between UMS and ECoS (Energy Commission of Sabah) to offer courses and training leading to professional competency qualifications in the gas, electricity, and RE sectors.

Both parties agreed to proceed with this collaboration for the benefit of the RE industry in Sabah.

Also in attendance were three academics leading UMS’s drive in researching and developing RE technologies.
