S’kan GFO member flown back to hometown after suffering a stroke

SANDAKAN: A courtesy flight using the Royal Malaysian Police Air Wing’s aircraft was made for a member of the General Operations Force (PGA) Battalion 20 Beluran who suffered a stroke from Sandakan Airport to Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, Alor Setar, Kedah, on Wednesday.Lance Corporal Mohamad Syazwan Othman, a 28-year-old infantry in Platoon 3, Company C, Battalion 20 PGA Beluran, was confirmed to have suffered stroke by a specialist in Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) Sandakan earlier in the month.

Battalion 20 PGA Officer ACP Mohd Nasarudin M Nasir said, due to the hardships faced topped with not having any relatives here, he asked for permission from the Sabah Brigade Commander SAC Datuk Ahmad Fuad to arrange a courtesy flight.
He said the flight using a PDRM ‘King Air’ aircraft was approved by the Director of Internal Security and Public Order, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
According to him, it was was intended to bring Mohamad Syazwan back to his hometown in Sungai Petani, Kedah to be under the care of his family. He was previously placed under a rotation of care by his close friends.
Mohd Nasaruddin said the courtesy flight commenced on May 25, after they were informed by the Sabah Police Air Wing Commander, ACP Lokman that there was a plane returning to Kuala Lumpur.

“Mohamad Syazwan had been suffering from a minor stroke for nearly a month and was paralysed and unable to speak nor move.
“The flight departed Sandakan Airport at 9.30am on Wednesday and was expected to reach Alor Setar, Kedah at around 4.00pm today (Wednesday),” he told media before the courtesy flight.

Two of his friends accompanied Mohd Syazwan during the flight back to his hometown.
Earlier, Mohd Nasaruddin contributed cash amounting to RM8,500 to Syazwan that was collected from PGA 20th Battalion officer and personnel including personal donations from Acryl Sani to ease the family’s burden.
This contribution given was to cover the expenses incurred during the repatriation process as well as ease the burden on the families for all of the upcoming follow-up and treatment.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

This is the second courtesy flight conducted by PGA Beluran after one family with a special need child were also air transported via courtesy flight last year.
Also present was the Assistant Government Officer of BN 20 Beluran, Supt. Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah.
