Kuala Lumpur: Umno has decided to leave Perikatan Nasional (PN) and instead strengthen the Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact with other allies, said Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"Umno has decided not to join Perikatan Nasional and instead strengthen Muafakat Nasional along with PAS and BN components," said Zahid in a statement Thursday.

"The support to the PN government was only based on the backing by Umno and BN MPs and elected state representatives to form the central government and governments in several states.

"Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a meeting with BN MPs at noon yesterday at the Parliament building expressed PPBM's desire to join MN. PPBM's wish will be discussed with PAS for fine-tuning."
