Pole replaced: SESB
A new service pole was set up by SESB contractor at the spot in question recently
SABAH Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) had replaced a severely rusted service pole in Kampung Lutung in Pulutan, Manggatal, recently. It was carried out swiftly after Hotline highlighted the matter in their recent publication as it was apparently left unattended for more than two weeks despite being reported to their attention by a resident there. The complainant felt his repeated pleas to the latter had fallen on deaf ears.

“The pole would have hit my house fencing if it wasn’t for my initiative to tie the affected part with several rectangular-sized timber wood in the first place,” stressed DEN, the complainant, who noticed more than half the diameter of the pole had been  consumed by rust.

He voiced out his deep concerns on the matter as children are among the daily users of the stretch where the pole was once standing.

“What if a person happens to be walking by when the pole suddenly collapses?,” he asked.

He said the pole would collapse at any time given its present condition.

“What I did there is just a temporary solution while waiting for it to be replaced,” he added.

Apart from safety concerns, he also said several other houses in the village will have their power supply disrupted should the power cables snap.

“If that happens, I’m sure it will take them more than an hour to restore electricity and the affected villagers will suffer in the meantime,” he added

A SESB spokeswoman said its technical team had inspected the condition of the pole and they agree it must be replaced soon as possible.

“It couldn’t be saved because rust had overwhelmingly consumed its footing,” she added.

She said the base of the new pole was fortified with fresh cement to ensure it was stable and rigid.

“We must make sure it won’t collapse given the present wet spell,” she added. “We really apologised for the delay to overcome this problem as this should have been dealt with much earlier,” she added.

Meanwhile, she advised members of the public to make full use of their Careline at 1-5454 when it comes to reporting faults on their infrastructure.
