Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan film director Jack Wong is proud to have gone global with more international screenings of his award-winning work coming his way.

Wong started his career in 2010 as a wedding cinematographer in his hometown Kota Kinabalu and had always imagined himself directing films.

In 2012, Wong and a group of youths made a YouTube video called "Orang Sabah Style parody", which quickly became a hit and has attracted nine million views so far according to a report.

“Orang Sabah Style parody has assisted in promoting Sabah and catapulted my name globally via YouTube," a local paper quoted Wong as saying.

"However, I still believe that I can contribute more in my pursuit of achieving my dream to be a renowned film director and where my work can be screened in major brand cinema chains locally and internationally."

Later, Wong co-produced his first film "C144 Human X Nature", which tells the adventure of two camping enthusiasts who stumbles on the wreckage of a US military plane which supposedly went down while delivering food supplies to their comrades in World War II.

The film won four international awards - “Best Writer Award” in the Alternative Film Festival 2020 (Canada), “Best Feature Film” in the Eastern Europe Film Festival 2020, “Best Film in Nature/Environment & Wildlife” in the World Film Carnival 2021 (Singapore), and “Best Cinematography” in the Cinematic European Film Festival 2021.

The film will be screened on Feb 17 at 27 cinemas in Malaysia including three in Sabah.

The movie is reportedly set to go global again at the Laemmie NoHo 7 Theatre in Hollywood on April 1 and to be introduced in 12 countries including Japan, South Korea, China, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and several European nations.

“This marks the beginning of my film director journey in making Sabah proud of a homegrown talent making a name internationally, thus placing Sabah as a household name internationally," Wong said.
