Sabah cricket lasses take on Johor
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah women cricket team is hoping for a good start in the National Senior Inter State Championship on Thursday.

Sabah Cricket Association honourable secretary Hatta Patombongi said in a statement on Tuesday that the team represented by 14 players are to take on Johor at the YSD UKM Oval starting at 9am.

The players are captain Neserle Yean Alik, Suabika A/P Manivannan, Nur Syairah Ariff, Siti Nur Shaqilah Mohaily, Marnny Tony, Nuni Farni Mohd Safry, Jaidah Poel, Erminun Tulrahim, Jusiareiliny Gaebreil, Jennyka Rajius, Nur Mesira Masanda Harun,  Diana Udi, Sapna Jeaan Moses, Phutherilyn Viava Vialistary.

“Sabah will take the field as underdogs simply because the game is to be played on natural turf, and we have  no natural turf to practice here.

“Much depends on the first match against Johor followed by Perak and Selangor. If  we  can give a good start and perform a reasonable score then the team’s chances of reaching the last four will be good,” he said.

Sabah are among the seven teams taking part in the single round league competition.

Only the top two teams will advance to the finals, while the  third and fourth placed teams s in the preliminary round will be involved in the third place playoff and both matches will be held on January 6.

Hatta also said  Suabika Manivannan  who was awarded the best bowler at the recent Inter State Under-19 Championship is likely to lead the attack with Nuni Farini followed by Diana and Erminun, while Jennyka Rajius and Syairah Ariff are expected to open the innings with Suabika, Erminun, Yean, Diana to follow suit.

Meanwhile, the team led by manager Jasmin Ezayyu Rahman Shah and coach Peter Budin left for Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday after five days of  training followed by a one-day  match at the Padang Utama SMK Keningau II, Keningau.
