Viral video of rusty water tank not in Sabah: Shahelmey
Contaminated water tank that went viral recently
PUTATAN: Contaminated or dirty water tanks may occur if maintenance is not carried out according to the stipulated conditions, said State Public Works Minister Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya.

He said although the video about a contaminated water tank that went viral recently did not happen in Sabah, it should be taken into account by relevant parties, including the State Water Department (JANS) and the management of housing areas.

“The viral video has been verified. It was not happening in Sabah but it also shows it might happen.

“The Water Department has control over water tanks or assets, but we need to distinguish between assets directly under JANS or assets owned by individuals or the management of housing areas.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
“So this requires cooperation from various parties and using the imposed conditions, but there may be a weakness in the maintenance culture,” he said at the Putatan parliamentary constituency and Tanjung Keramat state constituency Aidilfitri Open House at Dewan Sri Putatan, here, Saturday.

He said this when asked about the water tank maintenance procedure to prevent the water supplied to consumers from being contaminated, as shown in the video that went viral on social media recently.

Shahelmey, who is also Deputy Chief Minister III, assured that the water supplied by JANS is safe to use.

“The supply of treated water from JANS’ water treatment plants is safe and meets the set standards,” he said.
