Kota Kinabalu: Seeing potential of the freshwater lobster market, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has begun conducting research to help improve lobster production through knowledge sharing with the local community.
UMS Borneo Marine Research Institute (IPMB) senior lecturer, Associate Prof Dr Annita Yong Seok Kian, said freshwater lobster farms are in demand among the people in the interior who are living far from the sea.

“That’s why IPMB, through UMS Hatchery, started conducting research to improve the existing freshwater lobster farming techniques so that the production process becomes faster.
“We are only improving the existing techniques because we want to help increase the number of eggs and spawn of freshwater lobsters. Usually lobsters take between seven and 10 months to grow in the pond.
