LAHAD DATU: Differences in political views should not be a cause for division in a multi-ethnic and religious society.

Lahad Datu Assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal, said while each political party may have its own agenda, he is confident that all parties have a common goal, which is preserving and promoting the existing unity.

He said the unity enjoyed by the State’s multi-ethnic and religious community, including in Lahad Datu, can be reinforced through mutual respect and tolerance.

“Let us all strengthen family bonds, support each other and work together to achieve our goals and dreams,” he said.

Yusof said this when officiating the Chinese New Year celebration at the Lahad Datu-district level, recently

Also present were Silam Assemblyman Dumi Pg Masdal, Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun, Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Justin Wong and Sabah MCA Chairman Datuk Teah Heok Kuin.

According to Yusof, who also serves as the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, it is customary for the Madani Family to celebrate the festivities of other races together in a harmonious atmosphere.

He said the harmony of the community is the key to the well-being and prosperity of the country.

“We should view our differences as advantage and privilege that bring us together rather than separate.

“Despite these differences, we should prioritise tolerance and mutual understanding regardless of religion, customs or culture,” he said.

During the celebration, Yusof also presented a contribution to the Tiong Hua associations in the district.
