Ramadan Bazaar operators told to observe food, personal hygiene

The Ramadan Bazaar stalls.
RANAU: As fasting month begins today, hawkers and business operators at the Ramadan Bazaar site are advised to comply with the level of personal hygiene.
They must not only maintain the cleanliness of the business sites but also personal hygiene and products especially the type of food that is cooked to avoid being contaminated food.

This is one of the reminders for the hawkers in a briefing at the Ranau District Council (MDR) meeting on Friday conducted by Assistant Environmental Health Officer of the Ranau District Health Department, Herry George, chaired by the Assistant Environmental Health Officer (MDR), Juelber Bin Albert.
Herry said every salesperson (who cooks) must comply with the rules set by the Department of Health, including getting a Typhoid vaccine injection to avoid any bacterial infection or food poisoning.
“Cooked food dealers must also have short and clean nails, wear aprons, shoes, gloves and cover their heads to avoid any contamination,” added Herry.
Juelber said compliance with food hygiene is important for the good and health of all parties.

“This year we want to reach everyone for their comfort and in a ‘win-win’ situation instead of the usual ‘Happy-Happy’ situation whether for the seller or the customer,” said Juelber.
The Ramadan bazaars are in three locations — Pekan Ranau, Pekan Kundasang and Ranau Monthly Tamu site (near the Liwagu River).
