PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ordered for 100 new trees to be planted in Kuala Lumpur for every “high-risk” tree cut down.

In a post on X, Anwar said he had ordered mayor Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh to ensure that this is done, following two recent incidents of large trees toppling.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said it had identified 28 “high-risk” trees slated for felling after a large tree came crashing down at Jalan Sultan Ismail last Tuesday, killing a man and injuring two others.

This was followed by another incident at Jalan Pinang two days ago, in which a tree toppled and nearly hit Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh’s vehicle. No one was hurt in this incident.

Federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa had ordered DBKL to “immediately” chop down “high-risk” trees and to come up with a tree replanting programme.
