Anifah retains PCS top post without fight

Kota Kinabalu: Tan Sri Anifah Haji Aman remains Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) President after he was returned unopposed at the party’s Supreme Council meeting at a hotel here on May 29.

PCS Secretary General Datuk Webley Disim said the party’s AJK unanimously decided on the matter.

Accordingly, the PCS General Assembly at ITCC in Penampang on June 22-24 would be officiated by the president. Some 500 delegates and observers are expected to attend.

The three Deputy President posts would be contested as well as the four Vice President and 20 Supreme Council member positions.

He said that during the meeting, Anifah expressed his gratitude to GRS President and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for accepting PCS into the GRS coalition.

“He also expressed appreciation and thanks to the presidents of GRS coalition partners PGRS, PBS, Star, SAPP, Usno, LDP and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah for their support of PCS’ participation in GRS.

“The entry of PCS into the GRS coalition is to show the unity in heart to advance Sabah under the umbrella of Sabah local party,” he said in a statement. PCS is the eighth member party in the coalition.

PCS also expressed full support for the Madani unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anifah is currently Special Advisor on International Relations and Foreign Investment to the Chief Minister.

He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2018 and was a key figure in bringing the MA63 issue to the political mainstream during the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

He is also a co-founder of the MySabah group and pushed for the formation of the MA63 review panel. 

Last month, GRS Secretary General Datuk Masidi Manjun announced that PCS was officially accepted as one of the component parties in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

He said it is in line with the State Government’s principle of “Sabah First.”
