Kota Kinabalu: Nurul Yanadido was crowned the winner of the City Hall Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan competition held at Imago shopping mall, here, on Saturday.

She took home RM12,000, a crown, and a trophy.

This is the second time Nurul has qualified to advance to Hongkod Koisaan KDCA for the state-level Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan pageant.

In 2019, she represented Kota Marudu and created a buzz on social media when she was reported to have brought her baptism certificate to prove that she is not a Muslim during the State-level registration.

This was due to netizens questioning her religion because her name happened to be Nurul.

The Sabah State Islamic Administration Enactment and a fatwa by the Sabah State Fatwa Committee clearly state the prohibition of Muslim women in the state from participating in beauty pageants.

Meanwhile, in second and third places were Jovita Claire Joseph who will represent KDCA Tg Aru and Locebeth Linsing (KDCA Bandaraya), respectively.

The first runner-up won RM8,000, and the third spot winner received RM6,000.
