BEAUFORT: A two-year-eight-month old child was found dead inside a recently built manhole in Kg Padas Damit, here, on Thursday.

Muhammad Naim Muhammad Firdausi was reported missing at about 6pm before the tragic discovery at 8.33pm.

District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah said the boy fell into a meter-deep hole measuring about 2x2 metres near their home.

“Emergency treatment was given for about an hour at the Padas Damit Health Clinic until he was pronounced dead.

“Investigations revealed that at the time the boy went missing, his mother was cooking and his father was making milk for him.

“They realised the boy was no longer in the kitchen and his father and some family members began searching for him at about 6.30pm,” he said.
