75pc of 1mil vaccine doses allocated to Sabah for July delivered
Kota Kinabalu: Nearly 75 per cent of the one million vaccine doses allocated to Sabah for the month of July has been delivered to the State.Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said Sabah received 152,100 doses Wednesday afternoon and will receive another 30,000 doses today (Friday). “The second bulk delivery of 308,880 doses is scheduled to arrive on July 28. As of July 21, the total number of vaccines delivered for July is 747,980 doses.

“There has been good improvement in the delivery of vaccines from Kuala Lumpur (Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry) to the State,” he said in a statement, adding that Sabah’s total vaccine allocation for July is 1,086,760 doses.

On July 8, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that Sabah would receive 2.2 million doses of the vaccine in July and August. Sabah was initially allocated 700,000 doses for the month of July, but was later allocated an additional 300,000 following approval from National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. On Sabah’s National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, under phase one, 73 first doses were administered on Thursday, bringing the tally to 65,469, while 147 second doses were administered, bringing the tally to 58,562. Under phase two, 27,137 first doses were administered, bringing the tally to 478,427, while 4,018 second doses were administered, bringing the tally to 313,454. “Ac total of 10,615 individuals signed up for the vaccine on Thursday, bringing the cumulative total of registrants to 1,023,406, which translates to a registration rate of 37.1 per cent,” said Masidi. Meanwhile, a community cluster was identified in Papar, named as the Kebun Lama Cluster, which was sparked during a funeral ceremony in Kg Kabang, as well as a tahlil ceremony in Kg Nagapas, Papar, which had 60 guests from 10 families. Masidi said the index patient is a 33-year-old male who was detected positive during a “sign-on” ship procedure screening on July 15. “One close contact in Papar was detected positive on July 17. “35 contact screenings found another 26 positive, bringing the cumulative total of cases in this cluster to 27. Eight were tested negative while one test sample is awaiting results. “Based on early investigations, the increase of cases among families is likely from a funeral ceremony on July 6 in Kg Kabang, followed by a five-day tahlil ceremony which was attended by 60 people in Kg Nagapas,” he said.

Another cluster was identified in Kinabatangan, named as the Kuril Cluster, involving workplace transmission at a palm oil estate in Mukim Sukau. “The index patient is a 26-year-old male who was tested positive at the Mabello Paris Clinic on July 15. Contact screenings found another 11 positive among families, colleagues and dependents,” said Masidi. He added that there are 12 cumulative cases in the cluster to date and screenings are still ongoing.

Sabah recorded 497 cases on Thursday, while one death was recorded in Tawau. Masidi said close contacts contributed to most of the caseload with 240 cases (48.3 per cent), followed by symptomatic screenings with 86 cases (17.3 per cent).

“The prison clusters contributed 17 cases, with 11 from the Kepayan Prison and six from the Tawau Prison,” he said. Targeted screenings in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) localities accounted for 7 per cent of the caseload (35 cases), with 24 cases recorded in Sandakan. Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 133 cases, followed by Sandakan with 60 cases. 91 of Kota Kinabalu’s cases are close contacts, while Sandakan’s cases are mostly contributed by targeted screenings (24 cases) and close contacts (20 cases). Masidi said 60 per cent of the overall daily caseload are in category one and category two which do not need hospital treatment. “There are 111 category one cases where they do not experience symptoms and 186 cases in category two where they only have mild symptoms,” he said, adding they will be placed in the low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs). Some 266 Covid-19 patients were discharged from the hospital while 3,669 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals and PKRCs. 72 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 19 requiring ventilator support. Sabah’s bed capacity is at 6,021 units, with an occupancy rate of 60.94 per cent. Meanwhile, seven localities will be placed under EMCO from July 24 to Aug 9, namely Kg Pukak, Mukim Tengah and Gayang Ria People’s Housing Project (PPR), Mukim Berungis in Tuaran, as well as Kg Gumandang in Kudat and Kg Lumatai Ulu in Beaufort. Three Sipitang localities will also be placed under EMCO on the same dates, namely Kg Banting, Kg Kawang and Kg Ulu Bole. Four EMCOs will be lifted on July 23, namely Kg Mangkubau in Pitas, Ladang Sabah Mas Division Segama in Lahad Datu, Felda Umas 1, 3 & 4 in Kalabakan and Taman Bukit Sepanggar Phase 4B in Kota Kinabalu. To date, there are 90 existing EMCOs throughout Sabah, with KK registering the highest number with 27 EMCOs, said Masidi.
