Lack of agriculture startups amid food crisis
Jokowi reminded startups and young entrepreneurs that this condition is a great opportunity for them as the data he has states that every day there are 19,600 people in the world who die of hunger due to food crises. On the other hand, Indonesia’s digital economy is growing rapidly 8 times, from Rp632 trillion to Rp4,531 trillion today.
JAKARTA: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on the SOEs Startup Day on Monday lamented the lack of Indonesian startups in the field of agriculture amidst increasing threats of the food crisis in the future. As of now, Indonesia ranks sixth in terms of the number of startups compared to the United States in first and followed by India, Britain, Canada, and Australia.23 percent of Indonesia’s startups are in the field of financial technology or fintech with the second largest being retail with 14 percent. Those in the field of agriculture only amount to 4 percent. “In fact, if you look at the food crisis in the future, it will be a big problem that technology must solve. And this is an opportunity,” said Jokowi at the event.

The dimensions in the food industry he said are broad from production, and distribution. Food issues are not exclusively about rice, but also other commodities such as vegetables and sago.

The second most promising industry startups can be involved in, he added, is the health industry, and the field of MSMEs ranks the third most prospective category.

President Joko Widodo has emphasised the urgency of law reform following the detention of Supreme Court Justice Sudrajad Dimyati as a suspect in the alleged bribery case in the Supreme Court.

To this end, the president also confirmed to have instructed Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.

“I see there is a major urgency to reform our legal field and I have instructed the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Hence, please inquire (about the matter with) the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs,” Jokowi stated at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base here on Monday.

The head of state also urged all parties to be patient and follow the legal process at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) that has named Sudrajad Dimyati as a suspect in the alleged bribery case.

The KPK also named suspects: Judicial Judge/Substitute Registrar of the Supreme Court Elly Tri Pangestu (ETP), two civil servants of Supreme Court Registrar Desy Yustria (DY) and Muhajir Habibie (MH), and two civil servants of MA Nurmanto Akmal (NA) and Albasri (AB), as recipients of bribes. –Tempo, Antara

Meanwhile, the suspects who gave bribes were two lawyers Yosep Parera (YP) and Eko Suparno (ES) and two private parties or debtors of the Intidana Savings and Loans Cooperative (ID) Heryanto Tanaka (HT) and Ivan Dwi Kusuma Sujanto (IDKS).

The KPK also confiscated evidence in the form of 205,000 Singapore dollars and 50 million rupiah.

The Supreme Court also issued a temporary dismissal letter for Sudrajad Dimyati as a supreme judge due to his involvement in a corruption case related to the management of the case.
