KOTA BELUD: A couple riding on a motorcycle was killed after colliding with a Toyota Land Cruiser at Kampung Lebak Moyoh along the Kota Belud-Tuaran road, here, Thursday.

They were identified as Noraffendi Badur and his wife, Adibah Jumat, both 29.

Kota Belud District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Muhammad Syazwan Latun said they received a distress call at 12.45pm and deployed eight officers and personnel in a fire engine and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle to the scene.

“Both victims on the Yamaha 125 succumbed to severe head and body injuries and their deaths were pronounced by Health Ministry workers,” he said, adding the driver of the four-wheel-drive escaped unscathed.

In KOTA KINABALU, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run along Jalan Lintas, near the Puspakom traffic lights, Thursday morning.

Kota Kinabalu Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the victim, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics following the 8.10am incident.

He said police investigations showed the victim was crossing the road from his workplace when he was knocked by a motorcycle.

“The victim was thrown a couple of metres away and sustained severe head injuries.

“The motorcyclist, however, fled the scene and police are urging witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
