RANAU: The Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) Matupang team emerged as overall winners of the Netball competition in conjunction with the Youth Association Sports Carnival (PMM) SIB Miruru Region Vol. 4 in 2023.

The Sports Carnival was held at the SK Sagindai field, 35 kilometres from the town here on Friday.

The runners-up were Lungkidau SIB team while Miruru SIB team took third place leaving aside 5 other participating teams.

The Top Scorer was won by Rehana Melisya (SIB Matupang) and Erna from SIB Kigiwit was named the Player of the Year.

Prizes in the form of trophies, medals and cash were presented by Ranau Member of Parliament Datuk Jonathan Yasin who completed the opening of the carnival.

However, the official results of the men’s soccer event involving 10 participating teams have not been obtained as press time.

Jonathan in his speech, praised the Sports Carnival programme implementing committee for successfully organising it every year.

“We hope that this carnival will be used as an annual event to unearth the talent and potential of young people in the aspects of Netball and Soccer

“It can even be used as a solid foundation to strengthen unity and brotherhood with relatives who are not of the same religion as us.

“I also expect the PMM here to be active in the field of sports in addition to gaining experience and knowledge in terms of spirituality and other social activities that need to be balanced,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jonathan also announced a donation of RM10,000 to the Committee to manage the Carnival.

“I still remember my promise here to donate an allocation if a programme like this involves participation up to the state level, and hopefully this sum is manageable for Miruru level,” he said.

He also gave words of encouragement and motivation to more than 100 young people who attended the Carnival which was held for two days (March 16-17).

Also present and giving a speech to motivate the young people were PTA Libin Gakim, while also present were Muruk SIB Area Head Calvin Jamious, Muruk Village Head Didimus Zai and Miruru Village Head Petrus Damit.
