SIPITANG: Former Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd (SFI) workers who are without electricity and water due to unpaid bills have been snapping up solar fans and light bulbs.

The cost for each electrical good ranged between RM 110 and RM140.

The buyers are looking for alternatives because it is currently difficult to get candles for use at night following the electricity supply cut by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) since last Tuesday (May 2).

It affected residents of former SFI employees in 640 quarters, shop lot business operators, SFI Motel and KEMAS SFI Kindergarten students entering day 14.

“At least we feel a little comfortable with fans and light bulbs using solar at night, especially for the use of our children who are still studying,” said Paudee Mandang, 41.

The father of two children studying at Padang Berampah High School (SMKPB) Sipitang is also looking after a sick family member at home.

“Also, candlelight is not very bright for studying at night,” he said.
