Sandakan eateries warned against profiteering: KPDN

SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sandakan Office has warned eatery operators here against profiteering.
Its Chief Enforcement Officer Azdy John issued the warning after inspecting a restaurant following viral information regarding a customer paying RM44 for three packets of mixed rice.

He said KPDN checked the restaurant’s menu and food price tags.
“We got an explanation from the restaurant operator that the customer took two packs of mixed rice with an excessive amount of meat curry and chicken pedals for which the restaurant operator charged RM17 for one pack of mixed rice,” he said.
He added that the pictured nasi campur that went viral on social media cost RM10. All the nasi campur amounted to RM44.
Azdy said the KPDN could not take action because the restaurant had already placed a clear price tag and the dishes were taken by the customers themselves.

Thus, Azdy advised customers to check the price tag and should ask restaurant workers to take the dishes.
He also advised restaurant operators to provide receipts to their customers.
