Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Football Association (Safa) will be organising the Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Hajah Juliah Salag Cup women’s football carnival on January 6-7 next year at the Likas Sukma field.
It was announced by Safa women’s football committee’s chairman Muhd Arziz Afizy Rumsani at the Safa office after chairing a meeting on Wednesday.

“This prestigious tournament with a total cash prize of RM17,500 will be held as a carnival over two days and it is open to all 16 affiliates of Safa.
“Winning prizes apart from trophies and medals are RM8,000 for the champions, RM5,000 for the runners-up, RM3,000 for third place and RM1,500 for fourth,” he said.
He added that apart from promoting women football in the State, they are hoping the inaugural tournament will be able to unearth more raw talents in preparation for next year’s tournaments.
“The main aim of staging the tournament is hoping to see more new talents to be developed by our coaches as back-up to our senior women players.

“This will also help us to make early preparations for several tournaments to be held next year, including the defence of the National Women’s League title we won recently and the women’s football event at the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2024 in Sarawak,” he said.
Meanwhile, also present at the meeting were Safa executive secretary David Wisom, State women’s head coach Justin Ganai and his assistant Petronella Dounny.
