Kota Kinabalu: Disciplinary cases in schools, such as vaping, bullying and sexual harassment can only be overcome with support from the community and relevant authorities, said Kota Kinabalu High School (KKHS) Principal Lily Wong Bitt Lee.

“Hence, it is of paramount importance to get the support and assistance from the authority, which is the police to tackle such cases in school,”

She said in her speech during the “Kembara Pendidikan Ketua Polis Daerah Kota Kinabalu Siri 2/2024 – Sekolahku Sejahtera, Sepakat dan Selamat – Community Policing” programme at the KKHS School Hall, here, Friday.

The programme was officiated by City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah, which aims to combat students’ involvement in bullying and drug abuse.

It is a joint effort between the Education Ministry and Home Affairs Ministry.

Lily said cooperation with the School’s Liaison Police Officer has greatly improved and become more systematic through the programme.

She said the programme was significant as students had the opportunity to meet the police officers in person.

She also hoped that the presence of the police officers would bring positive impact to the school’s Police Cadet members.

Lily also requested for KKHS to be accepted as the Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) first foster school for KK district.

“Hence, it is of great hope that the school will be a role model to other schools with zero crime in the future,” she said.

Also present were Treasurer of the School Board of Governors Pao Ong Kiew, Parent-Teacher Association Vice Chairman Dr Lim Cheng Kooi and Parent-Teacher Organisation Committee Member Fung Yun Fon.
