Kota Kinabalu: Nasoku emerged champions in the Sri Putatan Cup Basketball tournament held at the Sri Putatan Hall recently.

They defeated   GOM 69-57 in an exciting final to take the title while third place went to Borneo Wolf after their  79-67 victory over  UGBC.

The tournament held for the first time in the district was jointly organised by PGRS Tanjung Keramat and Putatan Basketball Association (PBA).

PBA president Tai Ket Hau said the tournament was held  to promote racial harmony among the community with each team must have at least  two players of different race on the court at all times.

He hopes the encouraging response from the participating teams will help to promote the sport more widely in the district and also to unearth any potential players.

He also expressed his gratitude to Sabah Basketball Association president Phan Chee Yong for his support and presence at the closing ceremony with PGRS Tanjung Keramat’s division head Ummar Arriff as guest of honour.

Ummar in his speech congratulated all the winning teams and hoped PBA will organise more tournaments in the district in the future.

Meanwhile, PBA secretary Danny Chin thanked Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya for the support and PGRS Tanjung Keramat for their trust as well as to all the parties involved to ensure the success of the tournament.
