Sabah, Fortune 500 company sign flood mitigation study MoU

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah and a Fortune 500 company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Friday to carry out a due diligence study to assess the feasibility of conducting flood mitigation, irrigation and drainage projects estimated worth RM17 billion in Sabah.

The MoU was signed by Sabah Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID), on behalf of Sabah Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Ministry (MAFFI), and Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group Corporation Limited’s (SCEGCL) Malaysian subsidiary, Shaanxi Construction Engineering (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (SCEM), in a ceremony held at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort here.

Deputy Chief Minister I cum Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan witnessed the signing. 

According to the MoU, SCEM will conduct due diligence in terms of flood mitigation, irrigation and drainage works in Sabah including but not limited to Moyog River in Penampang; Petagas River (Putatan); Putatan River (Putatan); Likas River (Kota Kinabalu); Tawau River (Tawau); Kadamaian River (Kota Belud); Bandau River (Kota Marudu); Membakut River (Beaufort);   Padas River (Tenom); Pegalan River (Keningau); and Dataran Bengkoka River (Pitas).
