Prizes worth over RM100,000 await Unduk Ngadau winner

Kota Kinabalu: The winner of this year’s State Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan (UNK) will bring home prizes worth more than RM100,000.
State Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan Organising Chairperson Joanna Datuk Kitingan said the first prize winner will take home RM12,000.

Additional prizes from the competition’s sponsors will also be awarded to the winner.
She said the second and third place winners will be awarded RM10,000 and RM8,000, respectively.
The main sponsors for the winners are Jetama Sdn Bhd and Sawit Kinabalu.
“The top three winners will each receive RM10,000 educational fund from ABNT Global,” she told a press conference, here, Thursday.

The top winners will receive another RM8,000 from the North Borneo University College (NBUC).
Joanna also disclosed that the top three winners will be granted a RM2,000 allocation each from the State UNK organising committee for a complete set of traditional attire based on their district of representation.

However, the funds will only be disbursed when the top three winners hand over the traditional attire to the Unduk Ngadau Gallery.
This cultural pageant’s 64th edition is expected to feature 49 representatives, including six from Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) branches in the peninsula, and one each from KDCA branches in Labuan and Sarawak.
The pageant week will commence on May 26 with the registration of all 49 representatives, followed by educational programmes scheduled for May 27-28.
“The judging of the Unduk Ngadau Can (Culture, Agriculture, and Nature) video assignments will take place at the Imago shopping complex on May 27.
“The event will be officiated by Assistant Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai,” she said.
The UNK gala night is slated for May 29 at the Hongkod Koisaan KDCA, Penampang, aiming to raise funds for the Huguan Siou Education Foundation.
The finals and crowning ceremony will be held at the Hongkod Koisaan KDCA, graced by Head of State’s wife, Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni.
