Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Fisheries Department has issued deep-sea trial licences to two Labuan companies since the State was authorised to do so in 2021.
Its Director Azhar Kassim said a company can own up to two permits and so far, four licences have been issued to two companies.
“One company that specialised in tuna fishing had ceased operations. A total of six companies have applied thus far.
“It’s like a trial because there are a few more documents to fulfil.
