Judge Datuk Celestina Stuel Galid handed the sentence to Chu Shan Yuen, 22, Liew Zheng Da, 24, Fong Wei Hong, 26 and Meng De Xuan, 23, after ruling that the prosecution had proven it’s case beyond reasonable doubt against the four.

The four were found guilty of trafficking the drug at the Sandakan Airport after arriving from Kuala Lumpur on June 23, 2020 where the drug were found in their respective luggage by Customs officers.

The drugs were found in the luggages of Chu (8,689.9gm),  Liew (8,158gm), Fong (8,523.7gm) and Meng De Xuan (8,911.6gm).

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nabilla Najjeeha Najmuddin from the Customs Department conducted the prosecution while counsel Dominic Chew defended the four.

Meanwhile, in KOTA KINABALU, an accused charged with robbing a senior citizen requested that his two other co-accused be freed from the charge against them.

Mohd Melvin Matdi, 36, informed Session Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, that he wanted his co-accused Sharizan Sablee, 24, and Zamree Said, 35, to be freed.

“I wish that Sharizan and Zamree be released as they were not involved in this case.

“During the incident, they were only inside the car with me but they did not know what I have done (the crime),” he said.

The court then said the court cannot simply freed the accused persons as the prosecution will call witnesses during the hearing.

The trio are accused of robbing  Usanti Bundi, 68, of her branded handbag at 4.20am on March 7 by the roadside Tuaran Bypass in Kg Rampayan, Manggatal.

The offence under Section 395 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.

Meanwhile, Sharizan and Zamree applied for bail to be granted.

However, the court did not allow bail and advised the duo to engage a counsel to represent them to apply bail.

The court set Dec 9, 10 and 11 for hearing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution while the trio were not represented.
