86pc success for Ko-Nelayan
Jeffrey commended Ko-Nelayan for its accomplishments during the KoNelayan appreciation ceremony held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), recently.
Kota Kinabalu: Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industries Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said Sabah Fisheries and Fishermen Development Corporation (Ko-Nelayan) garnered’ widespread recognition for its outstanding performance in 2023.

Under the 12th Malaysia Plan 2021-2025, he said Ko-Nelayan achieved an impressive 86pc success rate through the implementation of 20 development plans.

Additionally, he stressed that the corporation attained a remarkable 95pc performance rate through 18 Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiatives during the same period.

Jeffrey commended Ko-Nelayan for its accomplishments during the KoNelayan appreciation ceremony held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), recently.

In his speech, delivered by Assistant Minister Peto Galim, Jeffrey urged Ko-Nelayan staff to embrace continuous improvement and lifelong learning as a culture, enabling them to provide excellent service and achieve true job satisfaction.

To ensure sustained progress, Jeffrey emphasied the importance of monitoring and evaluating the programmes and projects implemented by Ko-Nelayan.

He urged for diligent follow-ups to ensure that the corporation’s endeavors align with the government’s expectations.

Ko-Nelayan’s Managing Director, Yusof Ag Besar, highlighted several notable achievements in 2023.

The corporation successfully launched a strategic plan aimed at advancing the fishing community and industry. Moreover, Ko-Nelayan secured additional funding of RM9.481 million for the years 2024 and 2025 through the Half-term Study Ceiling (KSP) application, augmenting the original RM30.304 million allocation.

Despite the anticipated challenges ahead, Yusof affirmed Ko-Nelayan’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

The corporation remains dedicated to enhancing its performance in implementing the 18 SMJ initiatives.

Ko-Nelayan Chairman Kong Soon Choi also emphasied the corporation’s dedication to ensuring that the fisheries sector continues to be a significant contributor to the national economy.

Simultaneously, Ko-Nelayan is dedicated to safeguarding the welfare of the target group.

In line with this commitment, Ko-Nelayan developed e-Kan, a digital marketing platform for fisheries entrepreneurs, in 2023. e-Kan has proven to be instrumental in assisting and advancing the target group, enabling fisheries entrepreneurs to market their products online.

As of December 2023, e-Kan has recorded a remarkable total of RM2.74 million in sales. The platform currently hosts 175 virtual stores, offering 908 registered products, and has attracted 1,637 customers.

The presence of Maffi Permanent Secretary, Datuk Robert Stidi, further exemplified the government’s support and recognition of Ko-Nelayan’s accomplishments.

Ko-Nelayan’s exceptional performance in 2023 underscores its pivotal role in advancing Sabah’s fisheries sector.

With its unwavering commitment to excellence and continuous improvement, Ko-Nelayan is poised to contribute significantly to the growth of the national economy while ensuring the welfare of the fishing community.
