PETALING JAYA: Two students from higher learning institutions who were arrested in connection with the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor last week were released unconditionally yesterday.

Johor police chief M Kumar said the two, a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, were released following directives from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

He said the students were investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“However, the investigation continues for the suspect’s five family members, whose remand detention will expire on May 24,” he said in a statement.

Kumar also advised the public against speculating, manipulating facts, or commenting on social media about the incident to avoid disturbing public peace and interfering with the police investigation.

Last Friday, a masked man attacked the Ulu Tiram police station at about 2.45am, armed with a gun and a parang. He killed two policemen and injured another before being shot dead.

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the man was believed to have acted alone and had no links to any terrorist group.

Seven individuals were arrested in connection with the attack.
