LAHAD DATU: About 70 house buyers in Taman Khazanah Indah are appealing for government intervention to address the abandoned project which they purchased in 2008.

A spokesman for the house buyers, Sultan Abdullah expressed concern over the project which has been abandoned for more than 15 years and has become a burden to the buyers.

Speaking at the construction site on Saturday, he said that despite paying the monthly instalments ranging from RM600 to RM1000, the houses are still incomplete.

Some buyers who are residing in government quarters were worried where they will stay after their retirement.

“We urge the State Government to intervene and compel the developer to assume full responsibility.

“The delay has caused significant distress, especially for those nearing retirement,” Sultan said.

He said the project was initially under the jurisdiction of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) before being handed over to developer Khazanah Jaya Sdn Bhd.

A buyer, Ladaja Jawalis, was frustrated that despite paying monthly instalments for a house since 2008, the project remains uncompleted.

“We have seen no progress since 2008, just a block of stone. It’s a tremendous financial burden,” Ladaja said.

Sabariah Mohd Salleh in sharing her plight, stated that she has been paying for her house since November 2010 via the National Housing Loan.

Despite efforts to negotiate a reduction in her RM835 monthly instalment due to the project being abandoned, the authorities have not been kind, citing jurisdictional limitations.

“This is my dream home and I am set to retire in eight years, yet I am still renting.

“The financial strain was unbearable,” Sabariah said.

With mounting expenses, including support of her four children, Sabariah implored the authorities to assist.
