THE opinion piece by one Joe Fernandez in the Daily Express Sunday, Dec 27 is misleading and confusing.  As such this will once again give false hope to Sabahans.

Fernandez outlined the following:-

- Because of British Colonialism; Sabah wealth is taken away by Malaya (Federal Government);

- Local Government to be returned to Sabah and Sarawak;

- Federal Government delegates its power on Federal projects to the State Government;

- Federal Government did not comply with MA63 when administering Sabah and Sarawak;

- Had the Federal Court ruled the validity of MA63, Sabah and Sarawak would automatically be out of Malaysia.

These are not true of facts on the issue, but imagination of  Fernandez to run down the Federal Government.

Facts of the issues are:-

- British companies when Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak was under their rule, were in a hurry to make money for their shareholders in London.  As such it was the British who were responsible for bringing in the Chinese and Indian plantation Foremen from Indonesia (Ex Dutch Plantations) to Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak.

The British also brought into Sabah and Sarawak: Malay teachers, Agriculturists, Fisheries, Surveyors, Accountants and Chief Clerks from Malaya.  As recent as 1937, the District Chief (OKK) of Keningau was a Malay brought in by the British from Kedah.  Hence we are now a multi-racial society.

- Sabah wealth was given away by Sabah leaders themselves – records will show the many million hectares of land given to local politicians who then sold it to Malayan Companies. This was particularly so during the PBS Government.

- Locals have since started celebrating Malaysia Day under the State.

- Dato Najib did delegate Federal Powers to the State of Sabah in 2016.  The State Government can award and choose contractors and fix contract amounts for all Federal projects in Sabah.

What happened after resulted in RM6 billion going missing – RM3 billion from the Rural Development Fund and RM3 billion from the Waterworks.  In early 2017 this resulted in a few punitive arrests  but that is all.

The issue of MA63 was never ever part of the law or rules in the administration of Sabah and Sarawak by the Federal Government.

- Malaysia is ruled by Parliament – under the concept of Parliamentary Monarchy Democracy;

- Over the last fifty (50) years, Parliament have sittings to discuss and consider thousands of issues.  Never and ever once had MA63 been referred to on matters affecting Sabah or Sarawak.

It is a matter of fact, just as any country having a Federation that Malaysia’s Parliament is supreme.

At this point of time, it is necessary for Fernandez to outline how the Federal government did not comply with MA63, and if 100pc of the MA63 is restored, what are the benefits to the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

Without proof to the list of benefits, Sabahans in particular will have to wait for the day when MA63 is fully restored to be relieved of their poverty and advancement to the Middle Class.
