Potential polluters  in Sabah monitored
TUARAN: The State Ministry of Industry and Trade has taken steps to identify factories that potential polluters in Sabah. Its Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, said this is a preventive measure to prevent a simililar scenario as currently happening, in Sungai Kim-Kim in Pasir Gudang, Johore Baru, and Kuala Koh, in Gua Musang, Kelantan that has affected the health and living conditions of the people.

He said his Ministry issued notices immediately to the management committee of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park and the other industrial areas to give out rules and regulations regarding the disposal of chemical waste.

“Although the factories in Sabah are pollution-free as of now, the government will regulary monitor them (potential polluters).

“Other than that, we ensure each and every factory will install  pollution detectors and act immediately if it happens in the early stages,” he said at the Tuaran district-level Aidilfitri Open House, in the Dewan Seri Sulaman here.

He expressed regret over the pollution that has happened in Kelantan where many among Orang Asli population from the Bateq tribe were reported to have died so far due to the water pollution from the streams of the Lebir River at Kuala Koh, Gua Musang.

“We hope that all the parties including the public should take drastic steps in Sabah to ensure our environment is always controlled,” he said.

Regarding other developments, he praised the police and related agencies in combating crimes and drug-related issues that is widespread in this district.

Also present was the district officer, Mohd Sofian Alfian Nair and a total of 1000 local folks who attended to enliven the celebrations.
