Trafficking routes detected
BELURAN: General Operation Force (PGA) Battalion 20 Beluran detected several landing sites and unauthorised routes used by illegal immigrants through Beluran waters.

Commanding Officer Asst Comm. Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir said the routes were believed to be used for trafficking.

“Today we are together with the Bukit Aman Special Action Unit (UTK), making a visit to the several posts such as in Mamahat, Sugut, Tetabuan and Langkayan Island.

“We have identified these landing sites and unauthorised locations and drastic steps have been taken to address the crime,” he told a press conference after conducting a first survey on Beluran PGA control post on Tuesday.

He said as the outcome of the visit, they also suspected that several islands had been used as temporary transit sites for illegal immigrants or other criminal activities in the district.

“For example, Puru-Puru Island and Botak Island, we find some settlement tents suspected to be used as temporarily transit. In fact, we also suspected that the place was used for illegal meeting such as smuggling and transporting illegal immigrants,” he said.

In this regard, Mohd Nasaruddin said effective and drastic action would be taken to address the problem.
