Tawau drain that is clogged with weeds

A TAWAU resident has expressed her displeasure about the unkempt condition of the reserve land beside a flood mitigation drain along one part of Jalan Air Panas.

The individual claims that this common area did not appear to have been maintained for some time.

She provided Hotline with the location of the drain in question. This information was forwarded to the Drainage and Irrigation Department.

A Department spokesman said the relevant section would be informed about this matter.

CHANG of Tawau said the verge beside the drain was overgrown with weeds.

She said the unkempt condition of the land beside the structure had a negative impact on those living in Taman Hot Spring Jaya nearby.

“Those going on foot risk being bitten by any of the dangerous reptiles or insects which might have made their home in the grass,” she said.

The resident suspected that the drain might also be clogged.

“If the wind blows from the direction of the structure, the stench which permeates my home is intolerable,” she said.

“I have to keep the doors and windows that are closer to the drain closed to prevent the stench getting in.

“I also fear that the foul water in the drains has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes as I have noticed more and more of these insects buzzing about my home.”

Chang was at a loss to understand how the local authorities could have turned a blind eye to this situation.

“I hope a contractor will be sent to trim the grass on the verge before anyone comes to harm.” (SS)
