TAWAU: The first batch of medical equipment and supplies was handed over to Tawau Hospital on Friday by Tzu Chi Foundation representative in Tawau, Lo Jin Oi.

These include three vital sign monitors, an ECG machine, three pulse oximetres, three laptops, two printers, eight industrial fans, five hospital beds, thermal scanners and stethoscopes. Lo said the foundation is also co-ordinating on other needs of the hospital.

He said as the pandemic has sparked fear and anxiety among the public, Tzu Chi hopes the timely provision of medical equipment and supplies will enable the front-line medical personnel to focus on treating the patients and safeguarding the health of the public.

“While we work together to combat the pandemic, may we also heed Master Cheng Yen’s advice to take good care of our health by observing a meatless diet, hence, reducing the chances of us being infected by zoonotic diseases,” he said.

The number of Covid-19 cases has been on the rise in Sabah, with a total of 119 cases confirmed as of March 20, and most cases recorded in Lahad Datu and Tawau.

In order to cope with the situation, the Tawau Hospital is in urgent need to acquire more medical equipment. Upon learning of the hospital’s need, Tzu Chi Foundation offered to assist by mobilising its offices in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau to procure the supplies.
