Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Young Business & Industry Leaders Network (Sybil) aims to instil among its members a spirit of wanting to contribute to Sabah and boost its economy.

“In Sabah, there is a big leadership gap between the ages of 20 and 50,” said Ar. James Wong who heads Sybil which is promoted by the Sabah Economic Advisory Council (Seac) to partner the Sabah Government in boosting the state’s economy beyond the RM10 billion revenue threshold.

Ar. Wong called on the media to help Sybil to uplift the spirit of young business leaders in order for them to want to help grow and build the economy of Sabah for the next five to 10 years.

“The key message is we cannot move if we do not have public support. Today in this meeting we have 120 capable entrepreneurs who were not contributing in any way to the government, but today we are able to mobilise them to Sabah. So, help to build up some of these enterprises.

“Some of these young people used to ask me: ‘James, you still have hope in Sabah?’. This is a real sentiment that I face, and I hope the media can address this, rekindle this desire to help Sabah, push the message on the mission of Seac and Sybil to mobilise our young business leaders to help to serve again.”

Seac member Datuk John Lo said: “The ultimate objective for all of us here is that we want to regain our economic ownership of Sabah. I think this is an absolute key issue.

“The Sabah Government has initiated this ‘Sabahan First Policy’. It has to be implemented. In that context, particularly for our younger generation. This is key. At the end of the day, we do not want our resources to be taken away from us to enrich other people. Our Sabahan family must come first.”
