Sandakan shop compounded for not displaying price tags

SANDAKAN: A shop operating at the Duchess of Kent Hospital here was compounded for failing to display price tags.
Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) Ministry’s Sandakan Chief Enforcement Officer Azdy Zukkry John said the shop was inspected following a complaint by a netizen on social media.

“Our enforcement officers inspected the shop on Wednesday and found the non-display of price tags on 30 various flavoured snacks on sale,” he said.
He said action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 was taken against the shop owner concerned, adding all the snacks that did not display price tags were also confiscated.
Azdy said individuals who commit the offence of failing to display price tag or price list on goods sold can be fined up to RM50,000 or imprisoned for not more than two years, or both, or compounded up to RM25,000, on conviction.
For companies, they can be fined up to RM100,000 or compounded up to RM50,000.

Azdy said the Ministry also advised the shop owner to provide clear information or notices in a place that is easily seen by consumers regarding the facilities and fees for charging communication devices provided in his shop.
