Kota Kinabalu: A man, who pleaded guilty at the Magistrate Court to taking syabu, claimed that he was scalded with hot water while in prison.

Arang Arsyad when requesting for a lenient sentence before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun told the court of his ordeal.

Arang, who was serving sentence for another drug-related offence, said he was beaten and flushed with hot water while in prison by two prison personnel.

He lifted his shirt to show the court of the scars on his abdomen from the incident of being flashed with hot water.

“I greeted them nicely but they do this to me,” said Arang in between sobs, adding that the scars on his abdomen were the only proof he had from the incident.

Jessica told Arang that she took note of his complaint and instructed the warden personnel escorting him to court to inform the matter to their superior to get medical attention to him.

Arang was fined RM1,200 or four months jail for the offence of taking syabu on Feb 16, this year here.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, upon conviction.

In the same court, another man was also fined RM1,200 or four months jail for similar offence.

Ong King Sang admitted to committing the offence in Penampang in September, 2020.

Inspector Albert Basiri prosecuted.
