Kota Kinabalu: About 130 lawyers participated in a peaceful rally here to deliver a memo to uphold judicial independence on Friday.

The rally, called "Walk for Judicial Independence'' and led by Sabah Law Society (SLS) President Roger Chin, started at 10.30am at the Damai Community Hall and ended at the Court Complex 30 minutes later.

Chin said the walk was to deliver to the Prime Minister a joint memorandum of the SLS and the Bar Council which urges the upholding and protection of judicial independence as well as the preservation of public confidence in the judiciary following an announced investigation into a senior judge by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The walk was carried out peacefully, said Chin, who thanked the police who were present to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of all.
