LAHAD DATU: The Lahad Datu Wildlife Department (JHL) received a report regarding the presence of a herd of elephants entering an oil palm plantation at Mile 18 of Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan as circulated on social media.

Lahad Datu District Wildlife Officer, Silvester Saimin, said that he sent a team of officers to the area after receiving reports from the public.

“Our team has taken action to drive these elephants back to the Forest Reserve area.

“JHL will continue to monitor this herd of elephants and take appropriate action according to the situation,” he added.

On Sunday, a video lasting one minute and 25 seconds went viral showing the presence of approximately 15 elephants in the palm oil plantation area.
