RANAU: Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, gave a positive reaction to the proposed construction of a new township in Sinurai within the Kundasang State constituency.

He said although the new town is still a proposal, it is a very good prospect, especially for the residents here.

“The State government always ensures that the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan is implemented well, especially in Kundasang.

“A proposal has been made to create a small town that is seen as potential and suitable, and Kg Sinurai was chosen for the benefit of the people of Ulu Sugut.

“We want to develop this area but if there are objections then this will make the process difficult,” said the Kundasang Assemblyman.

Dr Joachim said this when attending a briefing on the Sinurai New Town Concept Plan presented by the Director of the Sabah State Urban and Regional Planning Department, Augus Tamaning, here, recently.

The Local Government and Housing Minister said the Housing and Urban Development Board (LPBB) needs to contact the Ranau District Office to review the situation here.

He also informed that his party had held a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the coordination of projects under his ministry in Sabah, especially the areas categorised as poor.

Earlier, Dr Joachim attended a briefing from the District JKR Engineer on the Terawas-Malinsau-Kaingaran Road Upgrading Project and the Mini Estet Sejahtera (Mesej) Mansalu Road Construction Project which was held in Kg Meridi.

“Residents in this area will enjoy road facilities in 2025 in order to boost economic activities, especially from the point of view of marketing goods on various types of products.

“This is also something very positive and, of course, it will be able to improve the standard of living of the people,” he said.

The Village Head of Kg Sinurai, Robert Kindungu, 62, said as a representative of the villagers, he expressed their full support for the proposal.

Also present were Ranau District Officer Jumain Abdul Ghani, Ranau District Council Executive Officer Jupirin Haji Ruhimin, Political Secretary to Dr Joachim, Yubidi Gumpoyo, LPBB Manager Ahmad Shah Mohd Yaacob and local community leaders.
