Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Muslim Chamber of Commerce (DPMS) is planning to build an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) factory in Sabah.

DPMS Community Economic Affairs Adviser, Datuk Dr Abdul Sani Yahmin, said the proposal aimed to support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMIs) highlighting halal products.

“Our focus is to raise the profile of IKS thus helping the government to develop the economy based on the direction of Sabah Maju Jaya,” he said when met by the media during DPMS’ courtesy visit to the Head of State Tun Dr Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Wednesday.

In addition, DPMS is also looking into working with livestock farms in groups to systematically help the supply of food and reduce the dependence on imported materials that resulted in the increase in the price of basic necessities.

“We are responding to the call of the government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who stated the need for food security, and this is the main focus of DPMS.

“Most of the livestock such as cattle and goats are imported foodstuffs and are not sufficient for the Sabah market,” he said.

The delegation, led by DPMS Chairman Abdul Baree Habeeb, also expressed the wish to build a mosque in Pekan Menggatal.
