MANILA: In a gesture that not only eases the financial burden of Filipino workers but also recognizes their significant contributions to national development, private sector and government workers will be treated to free rides at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 on Labor Day (May 1), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced Friday night.

This after the Department of Transportation approved the labour department’s request to provide free rides to Filipinos during the May 1 celebrations.

The free rides can be availed during the peak periods from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.; and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

To avail of the free rides, employees must present their company identification cards or any valid government-issued identification card.

They shall adhere to the usual frisking and baggage inspections by LRT Line 2 management and shall follow rules and regulations, including the mandatory wearing of face masks.

The LRT Line 2 serves 13 stations along its 17.6-kilometer route. These are the Recto, Legarda, Pureza, V.Mapa, J.Ruiz, Gilmore, Betty Go-Belmonte, Araneta Center-Cubao, Anonas, Katipunan, Santolan, Marikina-Pasig, and Antipolo stations.

DOLE said applicants who will troop to the various job fair sites in the National Capital Region are also expected to benefit from the free rides.

The venues for the job fair in Metro Manila are SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, SM City Grand Central in Caloocan City, SM City BF Parañaque and SM City Sucat both in Parañaque City, SM Southmall in Las Piñas City, San Andres Gymnasium in the City of Manila, Quezon City Quadrangle in Quezon City and Marikina Quadrangle in Marikina City.

Over 70,000 jobs will be offered by more than 700 employers.

The DOLE will lead the 121st observance of Labor Day with the theme, “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino.”
