‘No More Dengue’ awareness programme

The ‘No More Dengue’ awareness programme in Kampung Sembulan Lama.
Kota Kinabalu: More than 100 residents of Kampung Sembulan took part in the “No More Dengue” awareness programme held at the community hall of Kampung Sembulan Lama, here, recently.The programme was organised by the University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) in collaboration with the Dengue Technical Support Team of the Sabah Health Department (JKNS), Aedes Busters Sembulan Association and the Sabah and Labuan VCM Association.

UCSF lecturer Sharmimiee Mohd Hussain said the programme was one of the community services placed under the management of the UCSF Languages and Generic Development Centre.
“It aims to instil a spirit of volunteerism among students and is led by UCSF student Dayang Nurin Nabilah Awang Indra and assisted by her collegian friends,” he said, adding among the activities carried out during the awareness programme were blood donation drive, HIV/AIDS screening, health screening, dengue talks and educational promotion from UCSF.
JKNS representative Dr Haseanti Hussein stressed that hygiene is the main key to reducing dengue cases, adding villagers need to prioritise personal hygiene, family and the environment to fight dengue disease.
Tanjung Aru Community Development Leader (PPM) Reduan Datuk Aklee was also present to support the dengue awareness programme, along with community leaders and residents of several villages involved.

Meanwhile, the Acting Dean of UCSF’s Languages and Generic Development Unit Noorashiqin Ahmad expressed appreciation to all those involved in making the programme a success and hopes that they will continue to fully support all the programmes will be held in the future with the people of Sembulan.
Meanwhile, the UCSF Vice Chancellor Dr Rafiq Idris said UCSF students are always guided and encouraged in community activities and social services.
