Warisan leader takes SESB to task over blackouts: Chin
Chin also insisted that the utility firm should compensate its consumers.
Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Chinese Coordinator Chin Tek Ming has taken Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to task for the recent blackouts in the State.

Criticising the inability of SESB, Chin also asked SESB Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar to resign and let “more capable people do the job.”

“How long do we Sabahans need to wait? One of the factors of the frequent blackouts is definitely dereliction of duty. As such, they should resign,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

“The State Government shall take over the management and ownership of SESB and solve the electricity supply problem once and for all. It is time for the State Government to act,” he said.

Chin also insisted that the utility firm should compensate its consumers.

“Being an affected consumer who could not rest well due to the heatwave and could not perform well in the court cases the following day, it is unacceptable that the recent blackouts around Kota Kinabalu and other places in Sabah had been so frequent.

“This has caused much disturbance and inconvenience to the routine lives of the public at large, needless to say the effects on Sabah’s tourism industry. “The tourists visiting our beloved Sabah must be amazed by the frequent blackouts and new norm of touring in the dark.

“It is ironic that SESB, which put up signages around Kota Kinabalu and other areas in the State with their motto ‘Your Light, Our Pride’, cannot walk the talk. It is really a satire and an insult on public’s intelligence.

“The lame excuses of cable theft, short circuit and tripped transformer are completely intolerable. “SESB even got the thick face to urge the public to be patient pending the reconnection of electricity supply. Don’t they know that the public has exhausted the limit? This can easily be noticed from the social media,” he said.
