Mohd Ali is new Esscom chief
Mohd Ali has been chief of staff of the Esscom’s UTK since 2019.
Kota Kinabalu: DCP Mohd Ali Tamby has been appointed as the new Commander of Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).

He took over the post Thursday from DCP Datuk Hamzah Ahmad who has been transferred to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department in Bukit Aman.

Mohd Ali, who is trained as an elite special forces police officer, has over 35 years in the police starting in 1988 before spending 25 years with the elite Special Action Unit (UTK) for 25 years.

A Master of Law holder from the International Islamic University, he has also served several important positions such as Deputy Petaling Jaya district police chief and was also Ipoh district police chief. He was also tasked on the security detail for national leaders.

Mohd Ali has been chief of staff of the Esscom’s UTK since 2019.

According to a statement released by Esscom, his extensive experience and skills would provide fresh leadership to Esscom, which is a multi-agency defence command set up in 2013 in the east coast of Sabah to thwart intrusions and cross-border crimes.

The official handover ceremony of the command will be carried out before the presence of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu on a date to be announced later.

The statement also said that several top officers have been involved in the changes to Esscom.

This included a new Esscom intelligence chief SAC Azli Amin, a new chief of staff SAC Mohamad Pajeri Ali, chief of staff for Special/Technical Investigation SAC Mohamed Rafiq Mohamed Mustafa as chief of staff of Esscom Special Forces.
