YB: Government should appoint more contractors to improve services
Calvin also proposed building more new water pumps, similar to those in Labuk and Kinabatangan rivers, while at the same time, ensure spare parts for the water pumps made available at all times to prevent delays of repairs.
SANDAKAN: Parti Warisan’s  Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong said the State Government must look into sewage pump thefts, clogged sewage system, lack of sewage trucks and inefficient water plant maintenance management in the district.

“I suggest the State Government adopt a more proactive stand by appointing more contractors or to increase more allocations to ensure better services by the said Department (JPPS),” he said, after meeting State Minister of Public Works, Datuk Shahelmy Yahya.

Calvin said the meeting was crucial for the State Government understand the predicaments faced by the Sandakan folks due to irregular water supply, poor road conditions and inefficient services rendered by State’s departments.

“I believe the State Government must facilitate close cooperation between the Public Works Department (JKR) and State Water Department (JANS) to ensure water supply in Sandakan remains stable,” he said.

Calvin also proposed building more new water pumps, similar to those in Labuk and Kinabatangan rivers, while at the same time, ensure spare parts for the water pumps made available at all times to prevent delays of repairs.

“It is a gross incompetency to not procure and keep spare parts standby at all times because if we don’t do so, any damage on the pumps will necessitate ordering   replacements from abroad and this can cause delay in repairs.

In another development, Calvin urged the State Government to speed up road repairs in the district including immediate paving to prevent untoward incident on road users.

“I hope the State Government will expedite repairs on Jalan Cheng Ho, Jalan Hiew Ngee Fatt, Jalan Loong Chun and also village road at Mile 10.

“It is also the Government’s responsibility to ensure road users are safe while using the road. Hence, pave the rocky road at St Monica’s School before any untoward incident occurs,” he said.
