SANDAKAN: Two motorcyclists were killed and another was seriously injured after crashing into each other while trying to flee a roadblock, here, on Monday.

Sandakan District Police Chief ACP Abdul Fuad Abd Malek said both deceased were aged 22, while the injured was 24.

He said police were conducting an “Ops Samseng” at Mile 16, Jalan Kuari 3, in the Gum-Gum area, between 3pm on Sunday (May 19) and 2am on Monday (May 20).

“During the operation, a group of motorcyclists tried to turn back and escape inspection at 5.30pm, and three of them crashed into each other, he said.

“Two men died while another was severely injured,” said Abdul Fuad.

He added that the bodies were sent to the hospital for post-mortem while the injured person was taken for emergency treatment.

Abdul Fuad said during the operation, a total of 105 vehicles, including 75 motorcycles, were inspected.

He said a total of 31 summonses were issued for various offences such as driving without a licence, not possessing driver’s insurance policies and modification of exhaust pipes, among others.

“We also seized 60 motorcycles and 16 cars for inspection and further investigation.”

In addition, he said, five people tested positive for drugs and would be investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
