Clarify status of heart centre: SOS
Eva stressed that the discrepancy can lead to the perception that the Prime Minister’s announcement was more about creating a favourable impression or political gain rather than reflecting a fully coordinated and actionable plan.
Kota Kinabalu: Contradictory statements by the Prime Minister and Health Minister on the construction of the Sabah National Heart Centre needs to be addressed said Society for the Sabah Heart Fund (SOSHF) President Datuk Eva Susau.

On April 20, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Sabah National Heart Centre would be established with an allocation of RM80 million from the federal government.

“This announcement was a significant step forward for healthcare services in our region and was met with great anticipation and hope from the community.

“However, the recent statement by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, indicating that the Ministry has yet to make any official decision on this matter, has caused confusion and concern among us.

“The Health Minister’s statement suggests that the necessary formal processes and approvals have not been completed,” she said.

Eva stressed that the discrepancy can lead to the perception that the Prime Minister’s announcement was more about creating a favourable impression or political gain rather than reflecting a fully coordinated and actionable plan.

“Given the importance of the healthcare facility for the people of Sabah, SOSHF kindly urges the Health Minister to visit Queen Elizabeth II Hospital himself.

“This visit would allow him to directly observe the dire needs and potential of the proposed site for the Sabah National Heart Centre.

“Such a visit would also help in aligning the efforts and communications between different government bodies and provide reassurance to the public,” she said.

She said the SOSHF hoped for a prompt and clear resolution that aligns with the Prime Minister’s commitment to enhancing healthcare in Sabah.
