Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry (MIDE) hopes a State-level Entrepreneurship Programme (PROTUNe) will continue to be implemented as a platform for honing entrepreneurial talent among secondary students in Sabah.

MIDE Permanent Secretary, Datuk Thomas Logijin said the annual programme entrusted by the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) to Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd in collaboration with State Education Department aims to expose the world of business to secondary school students in a practical way.

“I was made to understand that the total sales generated by the PROTUNe company in 2023 amounted to RM1,468,119.

“This sales revenue exceeded last year’s total in its nine-month business period (March to November) only. However, in this programme, sales value and profit are not the main measure alone.

“But what is more important is the opportunity and exposure of students in facing the challenges of the business world,” he said.

Thomas said this while speaking at the 2023 Sabah State Turnover Programme Convention Assembly (PROTUNe) held here, recently.

The text of his speech was read by his Deputy Permanent Secretary of MIDE, Myrna Jimenez.

In addition, Thomas said that MIDE provides resources through entrepreneurship development allocations to agencies through Sedco.

Through the allocation involved, he said Sedco is not only limited to providing infrastructure but also knowledge to entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs in this state.

“The unemployment rate in Malaysia is still at a worrying level due to the effects of the world economy.

“Thus, among the measures to deal with the rate of increase, MIDE will continue to mobilise entrepreneurship programme efforts for students who want to make entrepreneurship a career of choice,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were the Chairman of Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd, Rubbin Guribah and the Senior Assistant Director of the Student Affairs Management Unit, Pupil Development Sector, Ag Daramat Ag Mattiasin who represented the State Education Department Director, Datuk Raisin Saidin.

A total of nine awards have been contested in PROTUNe for the 2023.

Among the awards contested are the Sample Kiosk Award, Best Guiding Agency Award, Best Product Award, Best Company Service Award, Outstanding Counseling Teacher Award, Outstanding Principal Award, Best Presentation Award, Best Company Management Award, Best Company Report Award.

For the recipients of several major awards such as the Best Product Award, the Best Company Service Award, the Best Presentation Award and the Best Company Report Award, they took home trophies, certificates and cash amounting to RM1,000 each.

The Best Product Award and the Best Presentation Award were won by SMK Pengiran Omar Sipitang while Best Company Service Award won by SMK Benoni Papar and the Best Company Report Award category won by SM St Michael Penampang (Michaelian Millionare Sdn Bhd).
